A patio is the single outdoor improvement that delivers the most immediate and lasting increase in usable living space. It creates a defined, comfortable outdoor environment for dining, entertaining, and everyday use that functions independently of weather in a way that a lawn or garden area simply cannot. Smith LawnCare designs and installs patios for residential properties throughout Great Neck, NY using construction methods that produce flat, durable, and visually attractive outdoor surfaces.
About Our Patio Installation Services in Great Neck, NY
Patio construction begins with site analysis that evaluates proposed placement in relation to sun orientation, house entries, existing landscape features, and drainage patterns. Placing a patio in an area that collects water or sits in dense afternoon shade may compromise its functionality despite excellent construction quality. Our design consultation addresses these placement factors before any materials are selected or construction begins, ensuring the finished patio is both well-built and appropriately positioned.
Subbase preparation is the foundation on which patio quality and longevity depend. An inadequately prepared subbase allows frost heave in cold-climate regions, settling under load, and edge crumbling that begins within the first few years of use. Our installation process excavates to the depth appropriate for the material being installed and the soil conditions present, installs compacted gravel base material in lifts, applies bedding sand specific to the surface being installed, and verifies level and drainage slope before any surface unit is placed.
Material options for patio surfaces include concrete pavers, natural stone, porcelain tile, poured concrete with decorative finish, and brick. Concrete pavers are the most popular choice for residential patios because they are durable, available in wide colour and texture ranges, repairable by replacing individual units rather than sections, and compatible with radiant heating systems where that feature is desired. We present material options with honest assessments of their performance characteristics and long-term maintenance requirements.
